Graffiti in Brighton

I’ve not noticed much quality graffiti in Brighton in recent times which is a surprise considering the large underground community here. Indeed, apart from some pretty nice work around Cheapside (pic above - more in ‘more’) there’s a dire lack of any graffiti apart from the odd tag here and there. Shame. Anyway, thought I’d post up some pix of the above mentioned work as it is pretty good…
Feel free to post links, pix etc of quality graf if you know of any…
Update:
just had this link emailed to me - there is some very nice work there, although not in Brighton…

a link to all the stuff I’ve snapped. Nothing particularly beautiful here tho, it’s mainly political stencil stuff.

i hadn’t seen that link on your page Tom - didn’t know you were so into graf…
cheers for posting it tho! the political stuff is pretty interesting - although the placement of it isn’t radical enough for me generally…

tbh I’m not *really* into it, just find some of it a bit pretty. I had this grand vision of cataloguing all that I found in Brighton when I got a cameraphone, but haven’t really gotten round to it…

let me know if you get round to it!

Hey Pete,
I’ve got an interest in graf as well and I’d like to see a decent Brighton website.
There was Tatty Seaside town (http://www.graffiti.org/brighton/) but that hasn’t been updated in a couple of years and theres also Booda(http://www.booda.co.uk/) but that again doesn’t get that frequently updated.
On a related note I’m loving all the street posters and stickers that are cropping up around town. Theres an exhibition running in Brighton this month exhibiting artists from all over the world (http://www.postex.org). And for some good examples of this stuff theres loads of them on the boards around the site where they’re building the new library on Church St.
Damn, wish I wrote this much in my own blog!

hey Mat, i love the whole sticker/flyer thing too. it would be good to have a contribution site so that people could post this kind of thing…
tom (hume) has a friend who is studying all of this kind of thing i seem to remember…
true viral marketing is becoming an incredibly interesting subject - have you heard about the use of ‘beautiful’ people who are briefed on a subject/brand and then sent out to ‘chat’ others up and during the discourse mention that brand as being ‘cool’? then the subject (target) assumes that because this ‘beautiful’ person thinks a brand is cool, then they do too and try to impress their circle of friends with their amazing foresight in fashion or whatever… clever?
some sticker buffs have a similar subliminal idea that although you might not actually register the sticker in your mind, you’s still actually seen it and therefore ‘know’ the brand. all very interesting.
i’ll pop down to that exhibition and post some pix maybe…

about my site don’t get updated much. I update it when I get enough pictures to make it worth updating. I take all the fotos myself and get emailed the odd few.
was updated on wednesday. I have been taking pictures regularly in brighton for the last 3 years, and only update when i have at least a few pages.
It ain’t really worth updating a picture a day, it becomes a chore. plus ppl would rather have a beefy update than a poxy couple of pictures.
all my updates have atleast 50 pictures in, categorized by author and place.
rant over.
peace.
